Summary/Abstract: Corinthian bronze was the most precious alloy of its time. An anecdote, which tells about the origin of Corinthian bronze, probably played an important role in preserving its reputation. This paper is an overview of all reports of this ‘bronze’ story. Moreover, it correlates with other stories in Natural History telling also about the origin of special materials. Together, the paper attempts to reconstitute how the story was shaped, to define its genre as anecdote, and to describe the anecdotic narration of Pliny the Elder.
