St. John the Baptist as Angel of the Desert in Iconic Painting

Summary/Abstract: St. John the Baptist played an important role in the history of salvation, he was the forerunner of the Savior. He played a similar role in the Eastern liturgy and iconography. His task: Forerunner – Prodromos, “Angel on Earth”, “Angel of the Desert", Prodromos of Sheol was the motive for the writing of many icons. The article is a presentation of selected works.
