Summary/Abstract: Five and a half thousand years ago on the land, which is now called the Ukraine, on the edge of the ancient civilized world, there stood cities. They were the oldest cities in Europe, erected by a people whose name is unknown. Archaeologists name it the Tripolye culture after a small village in the Kiev area. Precisely here, about a hundred years ago, first sites of this culture were uncovered by V.V. Khvoyko. For seventy years several generations of archaeologists excavated Tripolye settlements but they did not know that one of the main and intriguing secrets was lying under their feet. There were huge settlements or proto-cities which had an area of hundreds hectares. Supposedly, everything or almost everything is known about the Tripolye culture. Nobody could imagine that in the end of the 20th century it is possible to discover a new civilization which is totally unknown for historians.
