Phenomenology pattern was used in the study. Semi-structured interview technique was applied to identify motivational factors of school administrators. The study group consisted of 27 school administrators working at primary, secondary and high schools in the Erzincan province during 2015-2016 school year. The data obtained from the administrators were first coded and then thematized. At the end of the data analysis, the motivational factors of school administrators were assessed under four main categories as positive and negative in-school factors and positive and negative out-of-school factors. According to the study results, among positive in-school motivational factors, school administrators mostly preferred the factors of working with a young, active and dynamic teaching staff, the existence of team spirit in the school and student success. As for out-of-school factors, on the other hand, they chose the viewpoints of superiors on school, being appreciated by higher authorities and parents, and parental support. Among negative in-school factors, school administrators preferred financial difficulties and teachers’ commitment to school, and as negative out-of-school factors, they preferred parental indifference and imbalance at administrator appointments.
