Summary/Abstract: Purpose – The aim of this paper is to compare situation of enterprises from former Eastern Bloc countries, presently – the EU members, in the context of SME’s support through public procurement. Conducted comparisons allow to indicate the leading country in this area, which can serve as a source of recommendations for Poland. Design/methodology/approach – In this paper, data from SBA 2016 Fact Sheets was used. Because of its variety, the data normalization was conducted. The zero unitarization method which was applied, allowed to prepare the country ranking and indicate the leader. Findings – As a result of conducted analysis, we diagnose that Latvia takes leading position in supporting SME’s through public procurement. After reviewing practices which are implemented there, the recommendations for Poland were formulated. Originality/value – In the subject literature, there is a lack of research, which combines issues of upporting SME’s through public procurement and problems of former Eastern Bloc countries, which joined the EU.
