Assessment of the Financial Position of Municipal Companies of Lower Silesia Voivodeship

Summary/Abstract: Purpose – Assess the financial situation of commercial companies in which shares are municipalities from the province of Lower Silesia. Design/methodology/approach – The study was conducted on the financial data of selected companies with the municipalities of Lower Silesia in 2010–2013. To measure and assess the financial situation of selected municipal companies were used financial ratios. Findings – Based on the survey were obtained, that examined the utility companies were in a weak financial situation. Particularly significant differences were found between the financial condition of companies due to the type of activity. Some of the industries are highly capital-intensive and unprofitable because of the specific nature of their services and their needs. Others turn profitable and generating revenues of local governments contributed expenditures. Originality/value – Testing and assessment of the financial situation of municipal companies is especially being from the point of view of rational management of public assets. The results of the research presented in the article shows the financial situation of municipal companies in the division of the municipal branches in the years 2010–2013. They provide utilitarian advice for assessing the financial standing of companies with different business profiles.
