Summary/Abstract: Two Avar graves were discovered in 2015 during the archaeological excavations performed onthe route of the future Sebeș-Turda highway, in the border of the settlement of Gâmbaș (Alba County), on thespot called “Ogoarele de jos”. The place of discovery is a high terrace of River Mureș, located north-east of thesettlement of Gâmbaș, at the base of “Măguricea” Hill, where River Mureș changes its course from east-west tosouth (Fig. 1a). The two funerary complexes are located on this plateau along the NNW-SSW axis, very closetothe north-western edge of the terrace, 15 m apart (Fig. 1b).The two graves date to the Middle Avar Period (650/670–710/720) and are part of the Avar environment inTransylvania/the Carpathian Basin. The two graves discovered in 2015 in Gâmbaș on the spot of “Ogoarele de jos” is 3 km in a straight line fromthe Avar cemetery in Gâmbaș/Cimitirul vechi reformat, discovered in 1911 and researched in 1913 (Fig. 1a). Itis thus very likely that the two graves in Gâmbaș – spot “Ogoarele de jos” was part of a different cemetery thanthe one in la Gâmbaș/Cimitirul reformat, researched in 1911, 1913.
