Summary/Abstract: The offspring of an old boyar family from Neamţ region, hieromonk Dionisie Hudici became known at the middle of the 18th century through his foundational deeds. The author reconstructed his family, life and activity based on the documents which constitute the Doljeşti Monastery fund from the Iaşi State Archives. After a short career first as a scribe in the country’s treasury and then as a second medelnicer, he made enough money through trading and usury to buy most of his family’s former estate, the Doljeşti village, from the Neamţ region. There, after he was tonsured a monk, he founded a monastery, on an older monastic settlement, where he remained for the rest of his days. Full of initiatives and a good manager on one hand, and on the other benefiting from the constant help of Metropolitan Jacob of Putna, his spiritual father, hieromonk Dionisie managed to place his monastery among the richest and most renowned monasteries of his time, its assets multiplying constantly through acquisitions and princely privileges, and especially through donations from those who wished to be prayed for at the holy services.
