Summary/Abstract: Having analyzed over 100 Byzantine coins of 10th-14th cc. found in the region, the author distinguished four chronological groups of their circulation: 1) early 10th – late 11th cc.; 2) turn of 11th-12th cc. – early 13th c; 3) 13th c.; 4) 14th c. The paper emphasizes essentially discrete circulation of Byzantine currency on this territory. It infers that Byzantine coins might be used for dating archaeological complexes only if found in hoards.
