Summary/Abstract: This study deals with the issue of the transformation of the public spaces, primarily based on the connection between the contemporary art and the public space. It reconstructs the main statements of the reference literature dealing with the public spaces, and it presents its own approach that puts the daily routine activities connected to public spaces and the aesthetic judgements into focus. While it presents the characteristic ways of using the selfies, digital photos representing public objects (statues, during this, it uses John Urry’s, an English sociologist’s theory about touristic gaze). The last part of the study attempts to reconstruct a significant aspect of the visual culture of the era discussing the characteristic ways of using the pictures representing the public objects found on the Instagram: the picture-taking and using method defined by the gaze of the public media.
