Elements of US National Power and their Role within NATO

Summary/Abstract: The study starts by clearly stating that USA are the most important political and military actor within NATO, so that the way in which the national power of USA is shaped and works is immensely important for the evolution and effectiveness of the entire Alliance. The study presents and comments a significant number of pieces of information, describing with a lot of details four main elements of the national power of USA: geography, natural resources, military preparedness and population. The conclusion is a predictable one: the stronger the national power of USA is, the stronger and more influential NATO becomes. On the contrary, when and if the national power of USA has some weak points, these vulnerabilities clearly influence, in a negative way, the power status of NATO.
