Summary/Abstract: The article presents the preconditions of the Polish presidency in the Council of European Union and is an attempt to assess their consequences. Firstly, the changes introduced by the Lisbon Treaty are discussed. Then, domestic conditions are mentioned which must have an impact for the whole presidency. They are followed by presentation of external dimension of the presidency linked to the position of Poland in international relations. Finally, the priorities of Polish presidency are discussed which were adopted by the Polish government in June 2011.
