Summary/Abstract: In today’s challenging business environment, companies require employees to possess very good knowledge of foreign languages. They also provide courses either in-house or by sending employees to courses organized by language schools. Challenges arise in both situations depending on the professional category involved as well as on their motivation and expectations. This paper is based on personal experience in teaching different professional categories and provides an insight into how to motivate people with opposite educational backgrounds (in this particular case blue collars versus white collars) in order to reach the expected results and how scarcity of language knowledge and skills may work better than other motivational factors.
