Summary/Abstract: This article is dedicated to the analysis of one of the essential digests by V. V. Dubravin – "Russian folk songs in Ukraine", which is based on a long (1965–1987) field research by the famous ethnomusicologist on five regions of Ukraine – Sums’ka, Chernigivs’ka, Vinnуts’ka, Cherkas’ka and Kharkivs’ka oblast. Compositional principles and genre contents are being determined; it’s place in the scholar’s creative evolution is being revealed.
