Summary/Abstract: Denominational communities are engaged in many important social works. Their activities are necessarily determined by the law of the land regulating the relationship between the state and religious groups. The author describes the situation of religious social services providers in three countries, representing three different systems of separation: pure separation (USA), coordinated separation (Germany) and hostile separation (France). The analysis of these cases indicate that denominational groups in these countries are valuable partners of civil authorities in the provision of social services. Even such contentious issues like subsidies for denominational groups from the public purse can be solved in satisfactory ways, because of the social advantages derived from the work of the churches. Their involvement in this field also fits well with the implementation of the multidisciplinary approach to social issues.
