Summary/Abstract: The author of the article investigates a connection between teaching religion in public schools, a democratic state system and the Church. In the first part, she outlines the shaping up and consolidating the present-day relationship between the state and the church in Poland, where a model of the so-called, coordinated separation, facilitates the realisation of their agreed objective: teaching religion in school. Thanks to it, teaching religion in the III Polish Republic has been sanctioned by the state law. In the second part of the article the author explores the importance of teaching religion for the Polish society, the state and the church. In the final part she sums up the reflection on the importance of teaching religion in school for the relationship between the state and the church in the democratic society.
