Summary/Abstract: The experience gathered in the context of Polish policy towards Croatia indicates its peripheral nature, as Polish diplomacy focuses on the issues that are of key importance from the point of view of Polish foreign policy. The states of the former Yugoslavia, including Croatia, were not perceived as strategic in Polish foreign policy because Polish interests were primarily concentrated in the Euro-Atlantic area. Although the level of Polish cooperation with Croatia was significant, in comparison to other states of the former Federation, Croatia was not a major political and economic partner for Poland. Today, despite the opportunities arising as a result of Croatia’s accession to the EU, it is rather unlikely that Croatia will become a country of significant importance for Polish foreign policy. At the same time, consideration should be given to the question whether Croatia’s accession will determine Polish policy towards this state. What are the political and economic opportunities and challenges for Poland in connection with Croatia’s membership of the EU? Is it possible to deepen cooperation, and if so, in what areas?
