Summary/Abstract: Ukrainian cinema researchers did not explore cinema-pedagogical activity of famous Ukrainian film director, screenwriter, honored worker of Arts of Ukraine (2003), Member-correspondent of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine (2004), Associate Professor (2002), laureate of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko’s State premium of Ukraine (2007), member of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine, Mikhaylo Gerasimovich Illienko (was born on June 29-th, 1947, Moscow, Russian Federation). Illienko educates young film directors in the Cinematography and TV Department of Ivan K. Karpenko-Kariy Kyiv State Institute of Theatre Arts (now the Institute of the CRT arts of Ivan K. Karpenko-Kariy Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema and TV). In summer of 1992, Mikhaylo Illienko began to teach his first workshop of directors of feature films: Bezpaliy Oleg, Zonova Nadiya, Levada Natalia, Maksimenko Andriy, Mel’nikova Viktoriya, Tikhiy Volodimir, Shashkova Julia and Suschenko Oleksiy at the Cinematography and TV Department of Ivan K. Karpenko–Kariy Kyiv State Institute of Theatre Arts. The distinctive style of pedagogical methods of Mikhaylo Illienko by its characteristic is joint work with students on many projects. For example, Mikhaylo Illienko a co-author of the works of his own students as well as students of other workshops (Volodimir Tikhiy, Julia Shashkova, Oleg Bezpaliy, Viktoriya Mel’nikova, Nadiya Zonova, Natalia Levada, Oleksandra Lozinska, Andriy Maksimenko, Oleksiy Suschenko etc.), he created a script of a full-length feature film "the Seventh route" (1997), which he filmed as a chief director, engaging students in realization of their projects on a movie set. In 1997 year Mikhaylo Illienko has founded the Film festival "Open night" and graduated his first workshop of directors of feature film. The most famous of the graduating students of this workshop is Volodimir Tikhiy, which during his studies made short-length movies, such as "Underground" (1992), "Axe" (1995), "Mermaid", "Feodor Dostoevsky" (1995), "Roof" (1996) which also were the participants of many Ukrainian and international film festivals and received awards. After he received his diploma in 1997, V. Tikhiy worked at such TV studios as "Studio 1+1", "Danapris-film" and others. Was a director of a famous in its time "SV-show" starring a TV star Verka Serdyuchka. In 1999 Volodimir Tikhiy made the full-length feature film "The car washers" (1999), "Songs of the forgotten" (2000), "Button" (after the book of Iren Rozdobud’ko), "My daughter", "The mysterious island", directed one of the segments of TV show "Mukhtar", etc. As a director and co-producer he participated actively in an art-house project of the Ukrainian short films "Mudaki (Arabesques)" (2009). In three years time, Volodimir Tikhiy along with Dmitry Sukholitkiy Sobchuk and Miroslav Slaboshpickiy took part in a cinema project "Ukraine, good-bye" (2012) as a director. The second workshop of directors of feature film (1997–1998) by Mikhaylo Illienko got: Vorotincev Mickola, Emec’ Katerina, Ermolenko Oleg, Kononchuk Natalia, Fedotenko Maxim, Yakovenko Vira, Bodrov Andriy, Daschuk Volodimir. In year 2000 Mikhaylo Illienko became the Dean of Cinematography and TV Department of Ivan K. KarpenkoKariy Kyiv State Institute of Theatre Arts, holding this position up to year 2003. Active the cinema-pedagogical activity of Mikhaylo Illienko resulted in him, the Ukrainian film director and teacher being invited to conduct the three-week’s course of lectures on film direction in Athenian theatrical school (Greece) in 2002. In year 2002 Mikhaylo Illienko along with his students and professional cinematographists made an animation movie "The single eternity" and short-length feature film "the Small trip on a large carousel". In 2003 Mikhaylo Illienko, associate professor of the Cinema and TV Department of Ivan K. Karpenko-Kariy Kyiv National University of Theatre Arts has been awarded with the "Honored Worker of Arts of Ukraine" rank by the President of Ukraine Leond D. Kuchma for his personal contribution to development of domestic cinematographic art, creative achievements and fruitful professional work. In 2002 year Mikhaylo Illienko graduated the second workshop of directors of feature film and took his third one, which consisted of Bochkarev Kostyantin, Vroda Marina, Golovko Polyna, Paschenko Gannaa, Rudenko Andriy, Polikushkin Sergiy, Shul’gina Olga, Krutin Sergiy, Zhilko Volodymir and Brovko Roman. The most well-known student of M.G. Illenko’s third workshop was Marina Vroda who became the second Ukrainian winner of the "Golden palm branch" Cannes International Film festival of 2012 for a short-length feature film "Cross-country race" (2011, 15 minutes). In 2007 Mikhaylo Illienko became the laureate of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko’s State premium of Ukraine and started with a film "That Who Passed through Fire". Mikhaylo Illienko constantly engaged his own students and students of other workshops of Cinematography and TV Department of Ivan K. Karpenko–Kariy Kyiv State Institute of Theatre Arts in shooting of this film. For young filmmakers this practice on the movie set became a priceless experience. I wish good luck to the known Ukrainian film director and teacher, successes in the creation of new films and education of young generation of screen artists.
