Summary/Abstract: This short article explores in brief the contribution of Professor Dimchev to the introduction of the concepts around open access (including also open science) in Bulgaria. It looks at the combined role the development of www,electronic publishing and digitisation played for the emerging and advancement of the open access movement and at the different patterns of its advancement in different environments. The article is of exploratory and biographical nature.
