Financing of investments with EU subsidies and the amount of indebtedness of municipalities and cities with county rights

Summary/Abstract: Poland’s accession to the European Union has enables the use of regional policy instruments. As a result of the allocation of EU funds, many infrastructure projects have been implemented. Their implementation has undoubtedly affected the financial results and amount of debt of local governments. The period of high investment means a demand for external sources of financing, including debt financing for co-funding of EU projects. The presented increase in indebtedness of municipalities and cities with county right has been a result of these processes. The size of the investment and the level of indebtedness of the individual units varied widely, both in terms of their character and location.
