Summary/Abstract: Ever since the fall of the Iron Curtain, countries – that before 1898 shared the same fate of being under a communist regime which had, for some, a more human face while for others wore an iron mask, depending on how much their rulers understood to oppress their peoples – have known changes at all levels. These changes impacted differently on countries in East Europe. Romania, in its turn, has undergone changes, some imposed, some assumed so that it can enter Europe. The legal system in Romania has been completely reformed, new institutions, meant to ensure the observance of law and civil liberties, appeared. This paper approaches the issue of the Institution of People’s Advocate in Romania settled up after Romanian legislation has been brought into compliance with community regulations.
