Summary/Abstract: Since March 2011, within the framework of higher education reform, new solutions to the way of functioning of state and private higher education institutions have been implemented in Poland; especially those which concern their management. Long standing research work carried out by the author, as well as his following the preparation process of the consecutive version of the amended law on higher education in Poland, allow stating that the final version of this amendment, approved by both the lower house of the Polish Parliament (the Sejm) and the Senate, differs from the earlier ones (and is not always better) and that it constitutes the first stage of higher education reform, bound to be followed by the next ones – more radical and consistent stages − and accompanied by substantial financial backing. The conclusion – the final shape of the management model in higher education institutions in Poland has not been worked out yet and further work will be continued. That is why it is worth spending some time on the problems and the ways to improve management in state and private higher education institutions and to start building − at first in its outline form – the model of management improvement in higher education institutions, whose implementation will bring about the continuous improvement of the quality of management. This idea is lying behind the author’s study, which concentrates on several most pending problems accompanying the process of management improvement in higher education institutions. The preparation of the model outline concerning pro quality changes in the university management had to address the need to make a prior presentation of the Bologna Process and the European Union requirements in this respect, the peculiarity of higher education institutions in Poland which constitutes the core of principles of the constructed model, as well as the decisive factors behind the work results of the university employees. In the following part of the study, eight EFQM principles, adapted to the university needs and conditions, have been presented followed by the suggestions concerning the cardinal values and principles of continuous improvement of the quality of management in higher education institutions. The most important part of the study comprises the description of the preliminary outline of the management model in higher education institutions suggested by the author, accompanied by the graphic representation of the model in question.
