Summary/Abstract: Orality represents a phenomenon that received the interest of many folklorists, ethnologists, anthropologists and sociologists. Many studies explore the interdisciplinarity and the complex aspects of life histories. Its narrative aspects made folklorists to study closer realities through the lenses of oral history. The story-telling represents a fundamental way of communication, with multiple functions in social and cultural life. Through story-telling can be better approached the self-knowledge, and also can be discovered deep significations of life through the process of oral presentation of the events, of experiences, of lived feelings. Through story-telling can be traced the memories regarding personal life of community life. Recording oral histories can open the road for studying collective memories, social representations, a “lived” history. The article also presents a few oral histories from the Hellenic Community in Craiova, stories that present a personal way of living, but also aspects from the history of Greek arrivals in Romania after the Second World War.
