Summary/Abstract: The article presents the methodological assumptions and results of the research concerned with the perception of the capital of West Pomerania by its inhabitants. The research involved a survey conducted among the inhabitants of Szczecin within the mobile categories of working age (25–44). The findings address the issues of: 1) the general attitude towards Szczecin as a living space, which allows for determining to what degree the city is considered one’s “own place in the world”; 2) the elements of collective self-perception of the inhabitants of Szczecin, expressed by grading a set of statements describing the city’s society. The cognitively significant context of the analysis is established through a comparison of the perceptions of the city along with the variables of inveteracy (having been born in Szczecin or having settled in it; having family roots in Szczecin or the lack of such)
