Summary/Abstract: The paper contains an analysis of the dynamics of the basic markers for the West Pomeranian labour market compared to other regions. This context allows for a presentation of the situation of Szczecin as a city which constitutes for a regional social and economic centre. Its distinctive trait, from the perspective of the quality of social and economic processes also present in other large agglomerations in Poland, is the significant disparity of the key potentials for development, related to: the quality of life, human capital, institutional and technical infrastructure, investment attractiveness, the efficiency of acquiring the funds for investments and projects, as wells as culture and the image of the city. The results of the analysis presented in this paper provide a framework for the review of the issues related to the social perception of the capital of West Pomerania.
