Summary/Abstract: The article refers to the unknown poetry and fiction on historical topics. Texts were originally composed in Polish in the 19th century in Masuria; however they are not representative of Polish national identity. Masurian authors were patriots of Prussia, therefore Polish historical memory was unfamiliar to them. Masurian heroes were the kings of Prussia. Indeed, Frederick the Great has gained particularly significant recognition. Wars waged by the rulers of Prussia were perceived as fundamental. The imaginary past of the Mazurians has strengthened their sense of belonging to the state, ruled by the House of Hohenzollern.
