Summary/Abstract: Disappearance of physical limitations in the context of knowledge and financial resources’ exchange, which was partially caused by availability of the Internet, has led to change in the nature of the relationship between public authorities, research centers and the societies. With help of tools such as crowdfunding, that is social funding, the strength of the community has become a key factor in the implementation of innovative projects – also in science. This type of projects is now feasible also due to partnership between public or business sector and society, which may contribute to science funding on an unprecedented scale, without restrictions posed so far by public institutions. The purpose of this article is to look through and analyze the range of currently performing crowdfunding platforms in the context of their impact on innovativeness in economies. The author will also put scientific crowdfunding in the context of types of motivations that influence funding process. That relationship will also be applied to Polish conditions.
