Summary/Abstract: Nestor Markov (1836–1916) is a teacher, reformer, bookman, public man and statesman, community center and theatrical activist. He is a patriot idealist who remains until the end of his life an earnest Russophile and a consistent militant for the democratization of the structure of the modern Bulgarian education and of postliberated Bulgaria, to which he dedicates his whole conscious life.The Gabrovo uprising, the Russian-Turkish liberation war, the San Stefano treaty and the Berlin treaty, and the Unification of Bulgaria are all events in which the revolutionary patriot took an active part, having the passion of a man, who had accepted his service to Bulgaria as his faith and destiny; by that he became one of the titans of the Bulgarian revival.
