Recyckling of municipal solid waste as a measure to realise circulate economy on the example of Poland and Slovenia

Summary/Abstract: The analysis of statistical data and indicators of municipal waste management systems show the large variations in European countries. Recycling indicator is particulate important in the context of circular economy. One of the leaders is Slovenia, which gets a recycling rate at the level of high-developed countries, which is more than twice as good as Poland’s. At the same time, direct contact with the Slovenian system does not indicate the particularly significant differences between the Slovenian and Polish systems, which would justify such differences. The European law allowed use different streams of waste in recycling rate. The aim of this article is to analyze statistical data and waste management indicators in Poland and Slovenia and to answer the question of whether and how different measuring methods are “responsible” for the differences between indicators describing the effectiveness of system in Poland and Slovenia. In addition; this analysis was supplemented by empirical data.
