Summary/Abstract: The article discusses a topic overlooked by pedagogues and poorly researched by Bulgarian folklorists. First of all, there is a clarification of the place of the mother’s lullabies in children’s folklore, their place and their functions in the traditional culture, according to the views of authors from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century (ethnomusicologists and pedagogues). A new vision of the concepts of lullabies is presented. It clarifies the functions of these songs in traditional rural culture. Based on these analyses, a specific place and approaches are offered for introducing mothers’ songs into pre-school education.
