Barriers to the development of non-agricultural economic activity in rural areas in the opinion of entrepreneurs and local authorities from Radzyński Poviat

Summary/Abstract: The article was aimed to identify the most important barriers to entrepreneurship development in rural areas of the Radzyń county (Lubelskie Voivodeship). According to the surveyed enterprises, the main barriers concerned long waiting period for payment, variability and complexity of legal regulations as well as the lack of sufficient financial resources to start new businesses. Complicated administrative procedures, difficult access to external financing and unfair competition were also mentioned. On the other hand, the local authorities pointed to the negative impact of limited public funding on business development, incomprehensible legislation and the lack of investment areas. The research shows that organizing and running free-access advisory offices for local and potential entrepreneurs could play an important role in the entrepreneurship development in the rural areas of Radzyński Poviat.
