Summary/Abstract: The paper presents some results of the analysis of spatial differentiation of semiurban communes in Poland by their level of socio-economic development. The communes with a high level of development were concentrated in 5 suburban areas: Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, Wroclaw and Szczecin. The impact of urban agglomerations on the development of the neighbouring units is seen. Mazowieckie Voivodeship (mainly in the suburban area of Warsaw) was characterised by the largest share of developed municipalities, while a significant share of underdeveloped communes was located peripherally in relation to the large urban centers and the capital city. The communes with a low level of development were usually located in remote areas, eg. on the border of two voivodeships: Łódzkie and Kujawsko-Pomorskie, with a great share of Eastern Poland communes.
