Musical images of James Horner - "heart and soul" of the film

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to analyse the creativity of James Horner, an American leading film composer. Methodology. The research methodology includes an analytical method, which allows the author to research scores, music material of the selected film works, videos of the composer’s interviews, studio audio and video records of the orchestra and singers under Horner’s control and conducting. The scientific papers of the American musicologists, music theorists are reviewed. In the study the author uses a method of theoretical generalization to distinguish the features of the functioning of the sound images in Horner’s compositions. Scientific novelty. The scientific novelty of this work is the analysis of Horner’s works and the researching of the composer’s style in creating of a musical compositions. Conclusions. In the article the importance of analysing the musical material, created for the best films of the last two decades, of James Horner, leading American film composer is highlighted. The structure of the musical materials and the relationship of sound images are revealed.
