A regulatory sandbox as an accelerator of innovation in the Polish banking system

Summary/Abstract: The article made the synthetic analysis of modern supervisory regulations as significant barriers to the implementation of innovations in the banking system. The article also designated the idea of a regulatory sandbox as a solution for the safe testing of innovations in the banking sector. Furthermore, in the article the regulatory sandboxes implemented so far in the world were analyzed and the desirable features of the Polish regulatory sandbox were proposed. According to the author regulatory sandboxes create a safe environment for testing the most advanced and innovative technology used in the financial sector and they are a natural response to the nature of modern supervisory regulations which create a barrier to the implementation of innovations in the banking sector. In addition, the creation of regulatory sandboxes can make that financial innovation will first be tested and implemented in countries where such sandboxes exist. Thus, the countries in which regulatory sandboxes are built, will have an additional competitive advantage over the rest of the world and will be a kind of avant-garde modern solutions and financial products.
