Summary/Abstract: Even though the concept of the law of outer space appeared at the beginning of the 20th century, the interest in this subject and its research becomes significant after World War II. Sudden development of technology, and launching of the first satelite into the space, as well as the landing of the first man onto the Moon, opened questions about allowed and forbidden activities in space. Parallel with development of technology, peoples' awareness of space as the commonweal, as well as the unlimited resource evolved , in a way that required legal regulation of its research and exploitation, Today law of the outer space is subjected to rapid development, incorporated into numerous national legislation, and included into curriculum of law faculties worldwide. While law of the outer space gains its importance and significance in Serbia and nearby regions, little is known about it, which is probably the consequence of ignorance of the importance of space for our everyday life. This work is therefore an attempt to make scientific and wider publicity familiar with this branch of law and perhaps encourage the law faculties to include the law of outer space into their curriculum.
