Balanced Scorecard in the process of public university management

Summary/Abstract: Balanced Scorecard is a strategic management tool that is increasingly used in the higher education sector. The success of universities operating in a competitive environment, as well as commercial enterprices, depends largely on the ability to make the right strategic choices and implementation of effective monitoring methods of actually achieved results. Practical application of BSC in higher education needs to adapt this methodology to the specific functioning of such institutions. This article presents a discussion on the possible adaptation of the classic perspectives of BSC to two key areas of the university, related to the teaching processes and scientific research. In the second part of the article there is an example of implementation of the BSC method for the construction of the strategy for the faculty of public university in Poland.
