Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the problem of ecological insurance which essentially means the use of insurance as a legal means to manage the risk of environmental pollution. It’s slow development is due to many reasons. The most important are: the lack of uniform conceptual apparatus, the interdisciplinary nature of insurance protection of the environment and the underestimation of the preventive function of insurance. The elimination of these barriers is facilitated by regulations and initiatives undertaken at the EU level.
