Summary/Abstract: The article specifies the chronological turn of Hellenistic and Roman age in the history of Phanagoria. Materials from the necropolis do not show any considerable changes in mass culture and rites of the Phanagorians either during the reign of Mithridates VI, or in the middle and even the second half of the 1st century BC. Significant changes in the appearance of material culture and rites of the Phanagorian population date back to the reign of Aspurgus — early 1st century BC, which testified coming of a new age in life and culture of the Phanagorians. It was connected with the spread of Roman civilization in Bosporus and stronger influence of the neighbouring barbarian tribes — Sarmatians, Maeotians, Aspurgiani.
