Summary/Abstract: This paper is a research work on the subject of the current political and security situation in Syria. The research work focuses on the analysis of the role and significance of the leading world and regional powers in this conflict. The paper, in addition to introductory considerations and conclusions, deals with three other thematic units, one of which relates to the conditions that led to the escalation of violence in Syria, the second one dealing with the current situation, the third analysing other possible ways of further development of the complex political and security situation in this country. The aim of this paper is to provide a scientific description of the revolutionary trends caused by the phenomenon of the Arab Spring, as well as the analysis of the negative repercussions in the region and beyond, which have manifested themselves on account of the armed conflict in Syria. Taking into account the political significance of the Syrian crisis, as well as the high exposure to risk of the Middle East region in terms of security, the methodology is based on the objective/neutral scientific assessment of the influence of all the important subjects of the international community. Special attention was paid to those whose strategic interests have taken priority in the Arab world. They are, first of all, the Russian Federation, the People’s Republic of China and the USA, as well as Iran and Israel.
