Summary/Abstract: The report presents for the first time in Bulgarian the poem of the Slove- nian poet Josip Pagliaruzzi – Krilàn (1859–1885) ‘The Death of Tsar Samuel’ and tries to interpret his poetics as well as the sources that were probably used by the author. Although inaccuracies in details and historical facts can be observed, Samuel is presented in his psychological plausibility as a rare example of a ruler who died of grief for his beloved people and his death – as a symbol of the vulnerable human against the impartiality of the institution, of the interim in the eternal. The presence of a Bulgarian topic in the Slovenian classical literature, to which are devoted dozens of representative works in the last quarter of the XIX century, is also commented on.
