Summary/Abstract: Contemporary studies regarding international relations often mention the considerable transformations taking place in the international security environment during the last decades. The fall of the Soviet Union, the acceleration of processes of international economic integration, the ever higher influence of non-state actors as well as the changes in the military and information technology environment contributed to the emergence of the new challenges to states, their armed forces and civilian population. Among these new challenges, we can find what the analysts call „asymmetric threats”. The analysis of asymmetric conflicts, understanding their causes and effects may allow generating measures that might allow limiting damages and increasing the chances of being on the winners’ side.
