Summary/Abstract: Music lessons are an important part of the curriculum starting with primary school education. Through collective practical musical activities such as singing and instrumental performance, arrangements, improvisation, and composition students come to know various musical cultures, while creativity and social learning are stimulated. Composition and improvisation are two fields of music, which are interlinked. In addition to theoretical know-how and score analysis the following approach is a practical way for heterogeneous groups to improvise with material of a composition focussed for musical learning. The text gives an example of working with group improvisation in schools.
