Summary/Abstract: After the death of J.V. Stalin (March 1953) in the entire Soviet bloc began a process of a certain loosening, of softening some of the components of the Stalinist model of socialism. In Bulgaria this process was best outlined in the community of Bulgarian writers. In the literary circles emerged an innovation, an upsurge of ideas which found expression in a number of statements against negative phenomena in Bulgarian reality, against administering and commanding the literary process, against the imposed dogmas and cliches in literature and the arts. The most vivid expression of these activities was the column “Writer's Tribune” in “Literaturen Front”, the organ of the Writers’ Union. The articles published found a wide public response. This whole process, however, was most contradictory, it reflected the weakness and narrow field of vision of the liberalization in Bulgarian some society. On the one hand, those in power carried out some undertakings for a certain .loosening of the nuts., on the other hand they took care that the positive tendencies should, not lead to abrupt changes in the political situation in the country. An expression of these efforts were also the meetings of the supreme leader Vulko Ghervenkov with the communists in the Writers’ Union in October-December, 1955. Still, the freedom of thought gathered speed among the writers, and already in the spring of 1956 it acquired well-defined outlines.
