Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to analyze the legal aspects of the specificity of committing well-known crimes in relation to the trading of virtual currencies. The author presents the idea of creating virtual currencies and how they function in the market. The study further analyzes the particular crimes committed using virtual currencies. The author presents current legal regulations in this area, assesses their applicability to virtual currencies and points to the need to amend legislation in selected areas. The deliberations also include an assessment of the direction of action taken by the Polish legislature, the institutions of the European Union and the United States authorities to limit the negative phenomena mentioned above. In summary there are presented the solutions proposed by the author, which allowed him to limit the scale of the problem.
