Summary/Abstract: The article explores the problem of the adaptation of the Belarusians of Moldova to the new modern conditions. The Belarusian diaspora affirmed itself in Moldova as a well-organized ethnic group with significant intellectual potential. Although the Belarusian diaspora is relatively small in numerical terms, it has its own characteristic features of adaptation and acculturation. This paper examines various aspects of the national and cultural life of the Belarusians and the extent to which they retained their language and culture. In connection with the occurring processes of adaptation and acculturation, which are investigated on the basis of the field data collected in 2009 from ethnic Belarusians living in the Republic of Moldova, including the Gagauz Yeri (Gagauzia) and the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Transnistria), the authors consider the issue of the significance for the Belarusians of Moldova of their ethnic, linguistic and civic identities as important indicators of socio-psychological adaptation. It is underlined, that the cultural affinity with the ethnic groups living in the neighbourhood is created on the basis of the positive passage of the adaptation process. The results of the ethno-cultural interaction and the existing regional differences in the acculturation of the Belarusians of Moldova are marked.
