Summary/Abstract: My study focuses on some aspects of the role played by the Evangelical Lutheran Bishop Albert Klein in the emigration of ethnic Germans (Saxons) of Transylvania, Romania, between 1969–1989, especially in the prevention of the emigration of the Evangelical Lutheran priests. This paper is based on general studies on the history of Germans in Romania during communism, on documents of the archives of the former Romanian political police (Securitatea) and on seven oral history interviews conducted with people who knew Bishop Albert Klein personally.
