Summary/Abstract: Protection of human health, with health insurance schemes in the Union, represent one of the objectives of European Union policies and activities. Cross-border healthcare is a right of all Europeans citizens who travel across borders, according to which patients benefit from specific guarantees, such as: reimbursement for medical services, intervention mechanisms in case of an injury of a patient, the right to information for medical act, cooperation between Member States, recognition in an EU Member State of prescription drugs in another Member State. Considering the provisions of Directive 2011/24/EU on patients' rights in cross-border healthcare, in Romania it has been transposed through the OUG no. 4/2014 for the amendment of Law no. 95/2006 on healthcare reform and amending and supplementing certain acts. The article highlights the innovations of Directive 2011/24/EU and delimitation of the concept of "cross-border healthcare", given all EU regulations in the field.
