Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the circumstances of the making of the irst literary work by Jiří Weiss (1913–2004), who went on to become a leading ilm director. Weiss wrote the work in the spirit of a modern fairy tale. It was published by Melantrich in 1935 and republished by Olympia in 2000 with illustrations by Ondřej Sekora (1899–1967).
