Summary/Abstract: The analysis of the valency of adjectives in Adjective-Valency Dictionaries. The development of the valency theory and lexicography over the past years in Germany, closely related to the reception of Tesnière’s dependency and valency theory, can be summerized by the following major characteristics: the intense study of the verb valency on a morphosyntactic, semantic and cognitive-pragmatic level in multidimensional dichotomic and scalar theories, the admission of the valency of non-verbal parts of speech (nouns, adjectives, prepositions) and their comparison with the verb-valency (distinctions, similitudes) and the contrastive study and description of the valency of verbs, adjectives and nouns in different languages. The didactic orientation and practical use for foreign language learners of the valency theory is revealed by the mono- and bilingual valency grammars and dictionaries. The present paper offers a comparison of the description and analysis of the adjective valency in three German valency dictionaries with the purpose of developing a theoretical basis and a model for the description of the adjective valency in future valency dictionaries, based on the conclusions drawn from their comparison. The proposal of a theoretical and analysis model of the adjective valency should also serve future contrastive descriptions in a German-Romanian adjective valency dictionary.
