Summary/Abstract: The idea of wholeness in Der Zauberberg by Thomas Mann on the basis of the analyses of the chapter Schnee. The present paper exposes the idea of unity in Der Zauberberg by Thomas Mann, analysing in detail the chapter Schnee, which send us to the mythological background of the novels. The central figure is Hermes as companion of the souls to the other world, as protector of the entrance and travelers in the darkness, as missionary of gods and protector of arts. By this initiated novel Thomas Mann subscribes to the program of “remythologization” of reality, stated with Schelling’s ‘new mythology.’
